CELEBRATE 20th YEAR
This year will mark 20 years of family fun
in downtown Hutto when more than 10,000 people travel to the city
for the annual Olde Tyme Days celebration on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Special
activities are scheduled to commemorate the festival’s 20th
anniversary. Plans are in the works to have the annual parade start
at Hutto’s new Fritz Park and continue along
Park Street
to US Hwy. 79 then traveling along
the highway to
West Street
. Parade forms are available at
www.hutto.org
for those who would like to enter by Sept. 30.
During
the day, vendors will line the streets of downtown Hutto, showcasing
handmade jewelry, arts, crafts and a variety of gift items just in
time for early Christmas shopping. It's not too late for those who
are interested to reserve a booth space.
Children
will enjoy a miniature train ride, pony rides as well as many games
and contests. Another festival first will be the Hippo Olympics in
which children of all ages can compete in egg toss competitions,
three-legged races and a Jello-eating contest.
Live
entertainment will be offered on three stages throughout the day. On
the main stage, The Blue Crowns will kick off the live
entertainment, followed by Scooter Dubec. Festivalgoers can compete
in Jitterbug and Hula-Hoop contests throughout the day. Many local
performers, including musicians, dancers and martial arts experts,
will show off their talents on one of two additional entertainment
stages.
In
the evening, Hutto’s historic
East Street
will remain closed for the Hutto
Street Dance. Once again, Scooter Pearce and Carley Pilgrim, known
as the Gypsy Cowgirls, will kick off the evening, showcasing their
vocal harmonies in a repertoire that includes original songs as well
as their own unique renditions of traditional favorites.
Next, Texas country music favorite Ricky Calmbach will sing hits
from his three CDs, including the recently released “A Step in the
Right Direction.” Calmbach is known for his passion to revitalize
traditional country music and western swing.
